Taper, volume, and bark thickness models for spruce, pine, and birch in Norway

چکیده
Taper models, which describe the shape of tree stems, are central to estimating stem volume. Literature provides both taper- and volume models for three main species in Norway, Norway spruce, Scots pine, birch. These however, were mainly developed using approaches established over 50 years ago, without consistency between taper We tested eleven equations six bark thickness. Percentile Based Basal Area Diameter Distribution Models for Scots Pine, Norway Spruce and Birch Species
Information about diameter distribution is used for predicting stand total volume, timber volume and stand growth for forest management planning. Often, the diameter distribution is obtained by predicting the parameters of some probability density function, using means and sums of tree characters as predictors. However, the results have not always been satisfactory: the predicted distributions ...
متن کاملDissolved organic carbon and nitrogen leaching from Scots pine, Norway spruce and silver birch stands in southern Sweden
The effects of three common tree species – Scots pine, Norway spruce and silver birch – on leaching of dissolved organic carbon and dissolved nitrogen were studied in an experimental forest with podzolised soils in southern Sweden. We analyzed soil water collected with lysimeters and modeled water fluxes to estimate dissolved C and N fluxes. Specific UV absorbance (SUVA) was analyzed to get inf...
متن کاملBoron retranslocation in Scots pine and Norway spruce.
We previously traced 10B-enriched boric acid from shoots to roots to demonstrate the translocation of boron (B) in Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) and Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) seedlings. To gain a more detailed understanding of B translocation, we sought: (1) to demonstrate B retranslocation directly, by showing that foliar-applied 10B is located in the new growth after dormancy...
متن کاملFine root morphological adaptations in Scots pine, Norway spruce and silver birch along a latitudinal gradient in boreal forests.
Variability in short root morphology of the three main tree species of Europe's boreal forest (Norway spruce (Picea abies L. Karst.), Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) and silver birch (Betula pendula Roth)) was investigated in four stands along a latitudinal gradient from northern Finland to southern Estonia. Silver birch and Scots pine were present in three stands and Norway spruce was present...
متن کاملNutrient Dynamics and Decomposition rate of Norway Spruce Needles in Stråsan and Lajim stands
Climate changes due to changes in a habitat leads to differences in the rate of decomposition and nutrient dynamics of leaflitters, which has many effects on the controlling factors of the decomposition process. In the present study, the rate of decomposition and nutrient dynamics of Norway spruce was evaluated for 363 days in the two forestation sites in the natural and foreign habitats, ...
